EVERTON NEARING DOUBLE SWOOP
Everton are close to agreeing deals to bring winger Andy van der Meyde and defender Matteo Ferrari to Goodison Park.
The Inter Milan wide-man will have a medical on Merseyside, although a fee has yet to be agreed between the clubs, while the Roma stopper is expected to finalise his loan move on Friday.
Everton boss David Moyes is also looking at drafting in a left-back after revealing Alessandro Pistone will be sidelined for most of the season owing to knee ligament damage.
Moyes said: ââ¬ÅI aim to bring in a couple of new players. Hopefully Ferrari will complete his move today.
ââ¬ÅI don't know if we can get him registered in time for Saturday.
ââ¬ÅVan der Meyde is coming in today for a medical and we will see how it goes. Hopefully the clubs can agree a fee.ââ¬Â
Pistone incurred the problem on Sunday in the victory at Bolton Wanderers and the damage is far worse than first feared.
Moyes is also missing his other recognised left-back, Gary Naysmith, through injury.
The manager said: ââ¬ÅPistone has a cruciate injury and looks as though he will be out for most of the season.
ââ¬ÅIt is a massive blow and I will probably need to bring in a left-back.ââ¬Â
