Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomes is PSV target
Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomes is wanted by his old club PSV Eindhoven in a cut-price deal.
The big Brazilian has had an erratic spell at Spurs since joining them from the Dutch giants last summer - and now they want him back during the transfer window but hope to get him on the cheap.
Gomes cost Tottenham ã7.8million and PSV would give them around half of that money back, but they have yet to put a concrete figure on their bid despite opening talks.
Spurs do not want to take a loss on him, but his unpredictable form has sparked debate about his future within the club.
Manager Harry Redknapp does not know whether to hold on to Gomes - he is also aware that it would be hard to get a new No.1 eligible for the Carling Cup.
Spurs have been looking at several keepers, but have yet to commit to one as their priority capture and most of their options have played in the competition.
Psv will have to come up with a tempting offer to help Spurs make their minds up and that would be a figure closer to ã5m.
Barnsley keeper Heinz Muller is a possible Tottenham target.
And defender Jonathan Woodgate has recommended the club buy his former Middlesbrough team-mate Stewart Downing.
Centre-back Woodgate (below) said: "Stewart is an England international and anyone who plays for England under Fabio Capello is a good player."
Redknapp is trailing 6ft 6in Austrian striker Marc Janko, the top scorer in Europe with 30 for Red Bull Salzburg.
The Spurs boss also likes the look of Bordeaux striker Fernando Cavenaghi.
hij hield er wel eentje weergaloos uit dit weekend. aan het verlies tegen de nummer laatst kon hij weinig doen, vooral ook omdat tottenham lang met 10 man moest spelen na een sneijder achtige overtreding (, sparta uit, daar zien de scheidsrechters dat wel).
bij stoke city moest er ook een speler af, omdat hij een medespeler sloeg. en toen verloren ze van west ham.
