 French Open - Nadal loses to world number 109
Nadal, who has never lost an official match at the French Open, went down 7-5 to the world number 109 on the eve of the tournament in front of stands that were packed despite rain in the French capital.
The 22-year-old Spaniard is chasing a record fifth successive title at Roland Garros having beaten world number two Roger Federer in the final for the past three years.
Nadal, who has six Grand Slam singles title to his name, will open his account against qualifier Marcos Daniel of Brazil.
