1.3 Onderscheid in de vaste en variabele kosten.
De vaste kosten zijn op de korte termijn niet gemakkelijk te veranderen en variëren op korte termijn dus niet met de productie-omvang. De vaste kosten die bij Spyker Cars voorkomen zijn: Loonkosten, afschrijvingen, rente- en huisvestingskosten, verzekeringen, kantoorkosten, marketingkosten, reiskosten en overige kosten.
Variabele kosten zijn kosten die veranderen door een toename of afname in de productieomvang, zoals grondstofkosten. De variabele kosten die bij Spyker Cars voorkomen zijn: Grondstoffen, uitbestedingen, adviseringskosten en transportkosten.

Als men meer verkoopt hoeft de winstmarge ook niet erg groot te zijn om alle kosten te dekken.

De deelname aan de formule 1 is voor de naamsbekendheid van Spyker erg positief, maar het neemt wel grote kosten met zich mee. Een groot deel van de kosten wordt gedekt door sponsoring, maar we moeten er vanuit gaan dat Spyker veel geld moet neerleggen om dit stukje reclame over te brengen naar het publiek. Spyker heeft in het achterhoofd dat de deelname aan de formule 1 op den duur winstgevend zal zijn door de grote naamsbekendheid wat ze opbouwen. De kosten die gemaakt worden voor de formule 1 zullen niet verrekent worden in de verkoopprijs van een Spyker.
