Devvarman Awarded Australian Open Wildcard
Somdev Devvarman from India has been awarded a wildcard into Australian Open 2011 as part of the Australian Openââ¬â¢s profile as the Grand Slam of Asia Pacific.
Devvarman is currently ranked 108, just outside the Australian Open cut-off of 105. His best result in 2010 was winning a Challenger event in Turkey in September. He also reached the semifinals in Aptos in July and qualified for both the Cincinnati Masters and the French Open. This will be his first main draw appearance at the Australian Open.
Australian Open wildcards have been allocated as follows:
Reciprocal US: Ryan Harrison (USA)
Reciprocal French: Benoit Paire (FRA)
Asia: Somdev Devvarman (IND)
AO Play-off winners: Marinko Matosevic (VIC)
Discretionary: Peter Luczak (VIC)
Matt Ebden (WA)
There are two more discretionary wildcards to be awarded in both the menââ¬â¢s and womenââ¬â¢s draw.
